Sustainability is an integral part of Retorno. By modeling concern for our environment, we help our clients shift from self-focus to other-focus. Involving addicts with a larger mission encourages them to live beyond the moment and make a positive impact on our world.
Israel is a front-runner when it comes to solar energy. In 1980, the Israeli Knesset (Israeli Parliament) passed a law making solar heating mandatory for new residential buildings. This law has saved Israel and its citizens millions of shekels in energy costs. Retorno took it further, installing rooftop solar panels to provide a reliable, green and sustainable source of energy. Currently our solar panels compensate 30% of energy resources on the premises.
Our world is rapidly running out of fresh water. NASA satellite images reveal that the planet’s largest aquifers are being depleted at shocking rates. These underground water sources take thousands of years to refill; if we don’t search for alternatives, our water sources will quickly run out. Retorno understands how scarce water is, especially in Israel. Therefore we created ways to recycle water. Instead of wasting water, we collect the runoff to water the lawns and trees around the premises, excluding the fruit trees and vegetable gardens.
At Retorno we promote recycling. Together with our clients, Chezzy, our in-house carpenter, made beautiful desks and cupboards out of recycled wood and doors that were being discarded after renovations. When our clients use these recycled desks, they feel proud and connected with the tangible results of their efforts.
We aim to continue our journey into a resourceful green way of living on 100% renewable energy. As our clients join us in this mission, they not only contribute to creating a more sustainable world, they also build their own confidence, empathy, and sense of purpose. Through healing our planet, our clients heal themselves.
