DBT offers concrete skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and managing interpersonal relationships. DBT is also based on mindfulness skills, the ability to focus one’s attention on automatic thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a nonjudgmental way. This awareness puts the patient in control of choosing how to respond, in ways that can lead to healthier and more meaningful lives. Led by Chana Strauss, MA, the goal of DBT groups is to help clients accept themselves and their realities in order to make effective life changes.
