I am a teenage girl in treatment at Retorno. After a long time in the program, I met with the program coordinators. They asked me, “What can help you fulfill your potential? What will be good for you and your recovery?” I told them I wanted to do art; that would help me express myself.
I started with papier mâché. It was right at that point that I had started work on the little girl within. It’s really hard for me to get in touch with this little girl, to give her a voice, to accept her. But with papier mâché, I was able to create an image of my inner child. And now I have more place inside me to connect to her. Maybe I’ll even learn to love her.
