Sports therapy

Sports therapy can be a very effective way to heal emotional and cognitive issues. Research suggests that incorporating regular exercise into an addiction treatment program significantly boosts the chances of recovery. A peer review study revealed that exercise created a sense of accomplishment, helped addicts feel stronger, and improved their confidence to stay clean and sober. Exercise releases feel-good endorphins which increase positivity and reduce depression & anxiety, which can lead to relapse. At Retorno, fitness is an integral part of our treatment program. We make sure that all clients have plenty of chances and almost daily access to an appropriate exercise routine.

Sports therapy at Retorno

Retorno offers an innovative sports therapy program. The program is directed by Erez Cohen Goichman, who has been the coordinator of Retorno’s sports program for over ten years. He develops clients’ personal training programs, in addition to incorporating a healthy lifestyle with sports. Drug and alcohol abuse take their toll on the body and mind. Many entering our treatment program have sacrificed their physical health for their addiction. These healthy habits built at Retorno extend far beyond treatment and into future practices, helping our clients stay clean and sober when they go out into the world.

Erez uses guided imagery, yoga, therapeutic biking, and the gym, all practices that allow clients to develop coordination and motor skills. This program gives the addict a strong physical and mental system to cope with the difficulties and struggles of recovery.

Our alternative activities engage clients in their appropriate environment. These activities allow our clients to explore new areas outside of their comfort zone and discover new interests and passions while providing healthy practices and therapy for people in recovery. Under the supervision of Erez, clients encourage and push one another to complete difficult tasks, bonding and building their trust and confidence.
