Iron Hug Project for Soldiers

Psychological Resilience
and Recovery

The Iron Hug Project at Retorno is dedicated to rehabilitating Israeli soldiers through comprehensive psychological and therapeutic programs. With a significant rise in the number of soldiers needing psychological therapy, our mission is more critical than ever.

The Need for Support

Over 9,000 soldiers have needed psychological therapy, marking the highest number to date. This mental health crisis is underscored by the fact that one in five soldiers suffers from a mental injury. At Retorno, we treat soldiers recognized by the Ministry of Defense and Rehabilitation Office, but we also aim to support those not yet recognized due to the lengthy recognition process. Early treatment is crucial in preventing lifelong disability, aiding in their return to normalcy, and supporting their families.

Our History and Impact

Retorno was founded 30 years ago and operates under the supervision of the health, social services, and education ministries. Our communal village treats addictions, trauma, and depression, having rehabilitated thousands over the years.

We have a proven track record, especially evident during Operation Protective Edge when we treated hundreds of soldiers suffering from PTSD.

What Iron Hug Offers Soldiers

At Retorno, we provide an island of sanity and a supportive community for soldiers. Our trauma-oriented therapies include individual and group sessions, as well as equine, animal, and dog training therapies. We also offer a range of alternative therapies such as psychotherapy through art, drawing, sculpture, nature walks, meditation, yoga, martial arts, homeopathy, and Bach flowers. Additionally, our agricultural therapy involves work in our facility fields and bonding with nature, providing therapeutic tools to deal with trauma and mental distress.

Trauma-focused individual and group treatments led by an experienced professional team.

Animal-assisted therapy, including therapeutic horseback riding and therapy with dogs.

A variety of holistic treatments, including yoga, psychodrama, sports, Bach flower remedies, and more.

Agricultural activities and farm work, fostering a connection to nature

Tools for addressing trauma and
mental distress.

"I’ve been sad and hollow for such a long time that I don’t even know who I am anymore. Losing everyone and everything made me appreciate the small things that help make a connection with a fellow human real. I don’t know what, where, and when I will ever be okay. But I still hold on to the thought I can change, that life can change. Retorno's Iron Hug helps me to connect the dots I’m missing. If you truly ask for it, the right person will give you a hand."

A PTSD Patient

We need your support. These soldiers sacrificed their bodies and spirits for us.

Now it's our turn to help them return to life.

The cost of therapy is significant—$4,000 for one month and $24,000 for a full six-month course. Any contribution, whether yearly, monthly, or one-time, is deeply appreciated.

Every donation makes a difference.

Our mission is to return these soldiers to their normal routine.

We stand together, committed to their recovery and resilience. Join us in making a difference.
