The Iron Hug Project at Retorno is dedicated to rehabilitating Israeli soldiers through comprehensive psychological and therapeutic programs. With a significant rise in the number of soldiers needing psychological therapy, our mission is more critical than ever.
Over 9,000 soldiers have needed psychological therapy, marking the highest number to date. This mental health crisis is underscored by the fact that one in five soldiers suffers from a mental injury. At Retorno, we treat soldiers recognized by the Ministry of Defense and Rehabilitation Office, but we also aim to support those not yet recognized due to the lengthy recognition process. Early treatment is crucial in preventing lifelong disability, aiding in their return to normalcy, and supporting their families.
Retorno was founded 30 years ago and operates under the supervision of the health, social services, and education ministries. Our communal village treats addictions, trauma, and depression, having rehabilitated thousands over the years.
We have a proven track record, especially evident during Operation Protective Edge when we treated hundreds of soldiers suffering from PTSD.
At Retorno, we provide an island of sanity and a supportive community for soldiers. Our trauma-oriented therapies include individual and group sessions, as well as equine, animal, and dog training therapies. We also offer a range of alternative therapies such as psychotherapy through art, drawing, sculpture, nature walks, meditation, yoga, martial arts, homeopathy, and Bach flowers. Additionally, our agricultural therapy involves work in our facility fields and bonding with nature, providing therapeutic tools to deal with trauma and mental distress.
